Detect the Story 5

CHAPTER 5
The man slowly inched away from the crocodile while staying under cover as be as he possible could. It was times like these hat made him really wonder if being a reporter was all it's cracked up to be. If he were to die right then and there he wondered who would really care. The croci would have a nice lunch, his mother would grieve for a time perhaps, and his great Aunt Mildred would have something interesting to tell her Bridge Club. The next guy to get promoted to his job would be overjoyed. He sighed to himself and wondered why he never became a dental hygienist and led a normal life as his mother had urged him. She was always nagging him,"Adam, why don't you just settle down?" He would reply,"Part of me wants to but I'm just not ready yet. I'm just waiting for something to happen." "Like what, dear?" "I don't know, but it's something big and I don't want to miss it." His mother would chuckle softly and shake her head as if her were still a boy with much to learn,"When you meet the right girl you'll change your tune." He would reply with a quick, "Yeah, Mom." while thinking to himself tat the "right girl" was a myth and marriage a hobbie for those who can afford it. His mind began to wander through a litany of the "wrong girls" he had been through.
His thoughts were rudely disturbed by the approaching croc who seemed to be gaining on him. To make matters worse all of his movements attracted the attention of one of the retreating soldiers who had straggled behind. Now he was in an all out run from the croc while dodging bullets. A stray bullet hit the croc. Well, that's one less thing to worry about he thought pumping his legs as fast as he could. If I ever get out of this alive I'm going to ask for a new assignment....
Leah stared out of the window of the plane. She tried to correlate her ideas on the Belgian case and the recent events related to it. Kent's snoring prevented her from getting very far in this endeavor. He was sitting directly behind her but it sounded like he was snoring in her ear. The scene before her was beautiful. The sun was setting reflecting glorious colors dotted by massive cumulus clouds.
"What a lovely sun set." she commented out loud with out realizing it. "Yes, it is." the young business man to her felt replied taking her aback. "It makes flying enjoyable." Almost enjoyable"Leah said glancing back at Kent. "Ah, at least you're not married to him." "I know but unfortunately we are in the same business so sometimes I feel like I'm married to him. Funny how you can divorce you're husband but you're pretty much stuck with your coworkers." "What line of business are you in?" Leah was ready with her cover story,"Photography, we're going to Belgium to open a new art gallery." "That sounds interesting" "I like it, despite a few annoying business associates. So what do you do?" "Oh, I'm a reporter with CNN, by the way my name is Adam, Adam Whittington." "And mine is Jane, Jane Norton."
Adam smiled warmly. He felt drawn to this girl sitting next to him. She seemed so normal, so everything he was not, so perfectly content and ordinary. I'll bet she's never seen a croc before in her life unless it was at the zoo, he thought to himself. Just look how at ease she is. She's probably the last person anyone would fire a gun at.
"So, what brings you to Belgium?" Leah asked casually. "You know about the current theft series, perhaps?" Knew about them, she had memorized every conceivable detail related to them but she decided to play dumb. "Why, I think I read something about that in the paper." "I guess there's been three robberies so far in the past month." He looked at that lovely innocent face before him which seemed to live in it's own quiet little world unaffected by the events he risked his life to cover. "Are you sure you want to hear this? I don't want to bore you." "If fascinates me." She said trying not to sound too interested.
